The Covenant of Redemption
As we've studied together what happens whenever a covenant was cut in the Hebrew culture, this would be like a continuation of the Covenant. Looking intently at the New Testament ( the Greek word for covenant ), we see that covenant was cut between man and God through JESUS.
Knowing fully that while JESUS was on earth He was 100% man as much as He was 100% God ” ... For in him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily ... “
(Colossians 2: 9 - AKJV).
So when Jesus’s body was torn by the soldiers, the covenant was being enacted between God and man.
Looking at the five things that happen at this covenant as it pertains to us believers
• Change of names:
“Behold, what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called the sons of God ... “
(1 John 3: 1 - AKJV)
We are now called sons of God, having our origin and essence from God.
“For which things' sake the wrath of God comes on the children of disobedience ... “
(Colossians 3: 6 - AKJV)
This was us before we gave our lives to Christ, we were referred to as children of disobedience, but being a part of the covenant changes our identity entirely and name to the Sons Of The Only True God. We are now born of God and we have the legitimate right to overcome the world because whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world (1 John 5:4) so the change of our origin (change of names) changed our destiny for the best.
• Exchange of gifts:
At new birth, there is a supernatural exchange of gift, God gives us the gift of Himself in the person of the Holy Ghost ( this is the sole reason for JESUS coming that God may dwell in us and that we become worthy to carry His presence) “….ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” (Acts2:38). What does having the gift of the Holy Ghost change? It changes ALL THINGS, ALL THINGS BECOME NEW as in 2Corinthians 5:17 you become a new creature you have God in you which is the greatest gift ever; Christ in you the hope of glory Colossians 1:27. At redemption you are welcomed to a glorious life.
• Exchange of weapons:
At new birth, there was an exchange of weapon, the weapon of our warfare becomes the Word of God which is the mightiest
2 Corinthians 10:4 “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds” and also in
Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
We see that the Word of God is the mighty tool of warfare and we engage this weapon with our words by letting the Word of God dominate our words. Don't just speak casually, speak like a god by allowing the Word of God dominate your word.
• Exchange of garments:
Prior to redemption we wore a filthy garment of sin which had its strength from the law ( 1 Corinthians 15:56 ). At new birth the righteousness we now have is the one that is wrought by Christ, it becomes in built for a wonderful fellowship with God. So at redemption we become the righteousness of God in Christ JESUS ( it becomes an inner working ) and with this we can communicate effectively with God. 2 Corinthians 5:21
“ For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him “
So our righteousness becomes an inner working done by Christ, so we become ever righteous to God for a constant fellowship and we keep growing by faith.
• Exchange of authority:
Towards the end of the ministry of Jesus here on earth, He told his disciples in Matthew 28:18-19 “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: “ .
Now Jesus was directly willing the power to the Christians His followers ( disciples ). Jesus said “all power in heaven and on earth”. So for every of your endeavor as a Christian you are backed up by the heavenly authority and the earthly authority of your fellow believer’s prayer and love. So I charge you today engage the ministry of angels.
My dear, so you see the great privileges you have as a believer and much more as you study the Word of God. I charge today that you should walk in the light of what you have read and labour in the place of study. Thanks dear and enjoy your walk with Christ.
